Renowned
for her memorable melodies, alluring vocals and mesmerizing guitar work,
critically acclaimed singer/songwriterJeannie Willets has been captivating
audiences for more than two decades. Originally from Long Island, New
York, Jeannie began writing songs at age 15 and first gained prominence
in the 1980's Greenwich Village acoustic music scene, playing on the same
stage with talents such as Suzanne Vega and Shawn Colvin.
Though her music may be hard to categorize, with flavors of "pop",
"folk", "rock" and even "jazz", Jeannie's
songs seem to "speak to" many, according to her fans. One fan
put it this way, "I am blown away!!! Her songs and her voice are
incredible!!! This is music I could listen to while I do anything. This
may not mean much to you as simple words, but there is not much I would
say that about. I could listen and listen." Another simply said,
"Jeannie Willets is a great talent! She rocks!"
Musically speaking, her peers have much to say about her, also. One very
talented writer and musician friend and fan, Warren Pash, who penned the
hit "Private Eyes", recorded by Hall & Oates in the eighties,
said, "Jeannie plays her guitar like it's a piano and, with all those
walking bass things she does,
I have to say that she's, also, a damn good bass-player!" Another
very talented singer-songwriter, good friend and big fan of Jeannie's,
Lorin Hart, once said, "Jeannie's got the best chords in town!"
And her mixing engineer, Bruce Ablin, is predicting a great response from
her up-coming CD, "Anywhere I Go", due to such "high-quality"
material on it, as well as Jeannie's excellent delivery and the simple
but well-thought-out arrangements of the songs.
As a songwriter, two of her songs were recently included on a children's
album which has, incidently, turned out to be the #1 selling children's
CD of its kind in 2003 and is still going strong. Jeannie has, also, been
a finalist and has won awards for many of her songs as well as earned
critical praise from publications such as The Pasadena Weekly.
Most recently, Jeannie won 2nd Prize in a Singer-Songwriter contest sponsored
by Los Angeles Women In Music for her song, "Plans With You".
Jeannie Willets has pleased audiences on both the east and west coasts
and places in between with her well-crafted songs, creative guitar-playing
and smooth-velvet voice and has, also, performed in Europe benefiting
human rights causes. Currently, she is working on her up-coming CD entitled,
"Anywhere I go", soon to be released and is performing in and
around Los Angeles at award-winning venues.
